FOUND A BIRD
Make sure the bird is not injured in any way. If the bird is injured, please take him/her to a qualified avian veterinarian immediately.
Observe the bird.
Provide fresh food and water to the bird and bring the bird into your home and keep him/her in a safe area inside, but well away from other birds. You don’t want any risks for your own birds.
Please e-mail us at info@parrotgarden.com.au and we will send you details with avian vets, rescue organisations in your area and surrendering options.
Search for the birds owner if you can keep the bird in your care during this time.
Register the bird as found in several locations – please check to see if the bird has a band. If the bird has a band, advertise the species of the bird and location found freely; however, do not give out the band number. Require that people contacting you provide the band number to make sure you are placing the bird back with the proper owner.
If the bird does not have a band, make your ads for a found bird not as clear. Require that the person contacting you provide the species and description of their lost bird as well as odd habits, favorite foods, or phrases the bird may speak in order to verify ownership.
Check to see if the bird has a microchip as this could provide you with direct bird ownership information.
