Parrot Voluntary board member – management committee duties of governance, strategic planning and operational requirements

Based in Crystal Creek, Parrot Garden Sanctuary utilizes a community development framework to achieve it’s vision of people respecting animal welfare & conservation towards a just, welcoming, inclusive and enduring community of all living creatures on a healthy planet.

Parrot Garden Sanctuary is looking for motivated individuals with skills (preferably in similar organisations) in either animal care and management, conservation, governance or financial management to join the Management Committee.

The overall objective of these roles is to facilitate, (as part of the management committee), the long term strategic planning process currently being undertaken, and provide governance for the day to day operational requirements of Parrot Garden Sanctuary. Experience working for government or the not for profit sector would be valuable.

Executive Director

Parrot Garden Sanctuary is looking for an enthusiastic Executive Director.

  • Position reports to management & bord and is responsible for achievement of sanctuary budget, strategic planning & other goals as identified by the Bord.
  • Is responsible for promoting the organization & establishing partnerships which aid in the strategic goals of the sanctuary.
  • Requires experience as a director or as a developmental professional w/solid supervisory skills.
  • Proven fundraising development and donor cultivation success.
  • Ability to demonstrate confidence in approaching high profile individuals who can aid in the success of our strategic goals.
  • Animal welfare experience preferred.
  • Strong leadership & communicating skills, both written and verbal.
  • Self-motivated and highly organized.

Director – Public Relations

Parrot Garden Sanctuary is searching for the right individual to grow fundraising and lead our organization to the next step of its evolution.

  • This person will represent PGS, train volunteers, develop marketing strategies, write grants, develop and coordinate fundraising, complete newsletters and direct mail pieces, and ensure the overall running of the sanctuary is efficient.
  • Preference will be given to an individual with a Bachelor’s or advanced degree although post-secondary education and commensurate experience in animal sheltering and managing is valued.
  • Knowledge of animal health and communicable diseases is a plus.
  • Experience in leadership at a non-profit organization is preferred.
  • Must be familiar with social media and website modification, have strong verbal and written communication skills, and experience with Microsoft Office applications.

Director Animal Management

The Animal Services Director manages the facilities and animal care volunteers of Parrot Garden Sanctuary.

  • This includes the animal sheltering of displaced animals.
  • The Animal Management Department coordinates our team of volunteers.
  • The animal service manager coordinates the construction of new, state-of-the-art facilities & habitats for different species.
  • Minimum requirements include 3 to 5 years’ animal care and management experience and a high school diploma or certificate in animal care, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
