Become a Volunteer

Enthusiastic volunteers wanted to set up an organic farm and animal rescue park

We are the new owners of Parrot Garden and have many plans. If you care about animals and don’t mind to get dirty, you are welcome to apply.

Our volunteers make an valuable contribution to our farm by donating their time and generously sharing their skills and expertise to benefit our goals and the animals we work with.

We are looking for a helpers interested in living on 7 acres on our farm in the beautiful Crystal Creek Valley close to the Gold Coast hinterland, 40 min from the Gold Coast. We are in regional NSW, but close enough to everything and can sign you off for your 2nd year work visa. If we have free vacancies, you can apply for 2Year Visa Jobs after a trial period as volunteer.

In exchange for this lifestyle, we ask for your daily help and support in maintaining Parrot Garden. With the assistance of appropriate tools, we need help with landscaping, animal care, gardening, mowing, fencing, clearing, project building, etc.

The work is in exchange for a room in a house or a tent and shared bathroom or outdoor shower.

About our goals & projects

Organic Garden behind the care taker house

  • One part of the land will be used as organic farm with some fruit trees.
  • We plan to grow organic vegetables and herbs.
  • We try to feed our parrots organic food only if possible.

The Parrot Garden, Rescue Center and Animal Park

  • We like to build animal friendly enclosures, free flight aviaries, ponds, water features and gardens.
  • We will have parrots, miniature donkeys, alpaca, miniature goats, sheep, chicken, dogs, cats and other animals as part of our animal therapy program for kids & adults with Autism.

The Parrot Garden Cafe

  • We like to open the cafe ASAP so that we can fund the cost for our animal assisted therapy program and the food for our rescue animals.
  • Experienced volunteers are welcome to help us to do the “big clean” so that the cafe is soon ready for customers.
  • If you have worked in a Cafe before you might bring some skills and ideas with you.

Applicants and Requirements

We look forward to welcoming you and showing you our beautiful property in the Gold Coast hinterland.

We prefer if you could stay for at least 4 weeks and if possible more.

    Because of our vehicle insurance we can only take helpers as drivers over 25 with a driving license and excellent driving skills. However we don’t mind if you don’t drive.
  • Do you like to do volunteering with animals?
  • Are you are morning person and able to start as early as we do with your work?
  • Are you able to enjoy physical work?

Volunteer expenses

  • You can stay for free with us, but need to be able to pay for your travel cost. Sometimes we are able to pick up volunteers.
  • There are no hidden costs.
  • If you like to buy snacks, sweets, cake or soft drinks you are welcome to buy them at the cafe (when we have opened).
